Welcome to Anthony Veder's new LNG website. After nearly 40 years in the gas transportation business, Anthony Veder took the decision to enter the growing liquefied natural gas (LNG) market in 2006 when it ordered its first-ever LNG vessel, the Coral Methane.
As one of the cleanest fuels available, natural gas is one of the fastest growing energy sources in the world. LNG projects have sprung up across the globe and more are on the way. Just locally here in Rotterdam, two very large projects are being developed as the Dutch government bids to develop the Netherlands as a "gas turntable" for Europe.
Gate terminal is an LNG import terminal created by the Dutch gas firm Gasunie and Royal Vopak. This facility will have an initial annual throughput of 12bn cu m when it opens in the second half of 2011.
And then LionGas, part of the specialist LNG import terminal operator group 4Gas, will have a capacity of 9bn cu m a year and in the future this could be expanded to 18bn cu m a year.
Certainly, demand for natural gas is increasing. Anthony Veder saw this trend and saw a gap in the market for smaller-scale LNG transportation.
The so-called LNG feeder concept is more suited for smaller LNG parcels and for shorter distances. This means the vessel can be used for local LNG distribution to area's without a dense pipeline network, although it is also capable of loading at large terminals.
